Read-a-Thon

Dr. Seuss' 105th Birthday

Dear Horseshoe Trails Parents,

Let’s get READING!!!

In celebration of Dr. Seuss’ 105th birthday, the 2nd Annual Read-a-Thon is scheduled to take place at HTES the week of February 23rd – March 6th. Coinciding with National Read Across America Week, the school has LOTS of fun events planned for the children! Here’s how the program works:

  • Every child will be asked to read 105 pages during Dr. Seuss’ 105th birthday week.
  • Each class will keep track of the number of pages their class has read.
  • Once the class reaches the goal of 105 pages per child, a special invitation will arrive inviting them to a birthday party on Friday, March 6th.
  • Each class will also be responsible for decorating their classroom door “In Celebration of 105”. Door decorations will be judged, and awards given. We’re hoping for some very creative 105 celebrations!
  • Everyone participates, and everyone can win… even the teachers! Along with the delivery of the special birthday party invitation, the teacher will receive a coupon for $10 of free classroom books from the Book Fair, which will be held in the library from Monday, March 2nd – Thursday, March 12th!
  • Each child makes a commitment to their family and friends to show their love of literacy by reaching their goal of 105 pages read. In return, family and friends sponsor our students on their road of reading!

The goals of the program are two-fold. As a literacy program, we are encouraging our kids to READ. As a fundraiser for the school, we are earning money to supplement supplies and programs that benefit the literary achievement of all children at the school.

Attached are forms for the 2009 Read-A-Thon. Your child will be reading in class to fulfill their reading requirements for this activity. As a parent, you decide which of your family/friends would be willing to contribute to the school by sponsoring your child. There is no limit as to the number of sponsors your child can select, and EVERY contribution is given directly to the school. Please feel free to make copies or download the forms below.

Please complete and return the sponsorship forms to the school by Monday, Feb 9th. We will address & mail the envelopes for you, with a return envelope addressed to the school included. (Please remember to have your child sign their name at the bottom of the page as a personal touch.) In addition, the form will be posted on the website, and sent to you electronically, so you and your child may choose to contact sponsors electronically.

Thank you for your time & commitment to our school.
