What is Mini-Museum?
Mini-Museum is an art enrichment program offering sequential study in visual arts, designed to compliment history, social studies and language arts. Six times a year volunteer parents instruct the children in an art project accompanied by approximately 20 slides of paintings by Art Masters. The children view over 120 works in one year! These 6 lessons are provided by the support of your PTO at an average cost of about $1.50 per child per year! It's like going on a field trip without the cost and it is so much more. The art project, taught by the volunteers, provides an applicable art skill to expand their abstract thinking. Student's work is alternately on display on campus.
This year we will study :
- Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's use of line, color and composition;
- Paul Cezanne and his use of basic geometric shapes in creating still life and landscapes;
- the famous impressionist Oscar "Claude" Monet;
- the mastery of light and dark utilized in Winslow Homer's masterpieces;
- the fascinating life of Vincent Van Gogh and his inspirational use of texture; and
- the creative world of Pablo Picasso.
Every volunteer has a manual to guide them and all the materials are provided. We put on a mandatory teaching workshop (just one hour) of each month before the new artist to go over the slides and practice the project. NO ARTISTIC OR TEACHING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Just the best experience ever with your kids!
Support of Mini-Museum provides the children with new experiences, tools, and new ways to expand their way of thinking. Please come be a part of this wonderful program!
