PTO Executive Board

Dear HTES Parents:

All student birthdays are now being celebrated at our Birthday Book Club parties. We will no longer be having classroom birthday parties. As fun as these parties may be, student education is our top priority and teachers should not take precious time from that to conduct birthday celebrations.

The Birthday Book Club at Horseshoe Trails is a fun program for our students, with the objective of enhancing our children’s interest in reading while benefiting our school library

Each month we throw a party to include all the birthdays that fall within a two-month span. This enables us to include summer birthdays as well. Each child will bring home an invitation a couple of weeks prior to the date we will be celebrating their birthday month. Should you elect to make a minimum $15 donation, this will enable your child to participate in the Birthday Book Club part of the celebration as well. He/she will choose one book at the party from a wide assortment, selected by our librarian, Mrs. Price. A bookplate is then permanently affixed to the book cover showing the name of the student who donated this book to the school library. The student then gets to be the first to check out the book and take it home with him/her that day. The book is then returned to the library to be enjoyed by all the other students who will be able to read it in the future. They also get to enjoy cookies and juice at a short birthday party while we get their books ready.

This is an exciting thing for your kids to do. They will be able to point out the books they have donated to the school library for all the years they attend Horseshoe Trails.

When your child’s turn comes around, we ask you to consider participating in the club by returning the form we send home, with your donation to cover the purchase of a book. We also ask, on this form, for volunteers to help at the party or donate snacks. If you are able to help us out that day, it will only be for one hour during your child’s party, either from 10:00 till 11:00 in the morning or from 2:00 till 3:00 in the afternoon. We guarantee that you will have as much fun as your child. We just need extra hands to help serve refreshments and to help put the bookplates in the books for the students. We would love to have you see what a great time your kids are having while they pick out their favorite book for their school library.

This is what we’re doing here at the Horseshoe Trails School Library to get our students even more involved in selecting our books. We can’t do it without your participation. Come and join the fun!
